Credit card company tells West coast food chain of ‘questionable’ Net activity

Raley's Family of Fine Stores, a California and Nevada supermarket chain, discovered that a portion of its computer network systems “may have been the target of a complex, criminal cyberattack.”

The company and FBI are investigating to determine whether crooks may have been able to obtain payment card data, such as card numbers, expiration dates or magnetic stripe data. Officials claim they “currently have no reason to believe that any information submitted or collected in connection with pharmacy orders may have been targeted.”

Raley’s learned of the episode “recently.” A major credit card company informed the store operator “there was some questionable activity connected to our network. We immediately launched a full investigation. We don't have the specifics of how or when the attack occurred as our investigation is continuing.”

Raley’s had conformed to industry standards for payment cards: “A qualified security assessor conducted an assessment of Raley's security measures regarding payment card data and validated Raley's compliance with the Payment Card Industry (PCI) Data Security Standards.”
