Two House committees will mark up legislation on Wednesday to improve cybersecurity in government and private networks.

In the House Homeland Security Committee, Rep. Dan Lungren, R-Calif., will offer a manager's amendment to his PRECISE Act, which would create a system to streamline information sharing between government and businesses.

The changes in the amendment bring it closer to other House cybersecurity proposals, but they have splintered support among civil liberties groups that saw Lungren's bill as an acceptable alternative to more controversial legislation from the House Intelligence Committee.

The House Oversight and Government Reform Committee will consider legislation that would require government agencies to take a more proactive approach to protecting their networks, including through continuous monitoring.

Both bills are expected to be among a variety of cybersecurity legislation considered on the House floor next week.
