St. Paddy's Day In Kandahar?

I just had to do this one.

The Air Combat Command is planning a 5K St. Patrick's Day Run at, of all places, Kandahar Airfield in Afghanistan.

Ahh, the Irish: We're everywhere.

ACC is looking for some sponsors for this nonappropriated funds gig. Carole Barton, director of marketing, told me it's a real deal: $4,400 buys 700 T-shirts with a company logo along with entry into the race. Of course, she said, you have to figure out how to get there.

Barton thinks Kandahar probably will not honor that great St. Paddy's Day tradition -- green beer -- due to cultural sensitivities.
