DISA Turns on First Joint IT Node

Move is part of the 'largest restructuring' of IT management in Defense’s history, agency says.

The Defense Information Systems Agency turned on the first node in its new, global Joint Information Environment at a regional Enterprise Operations Center in Stuttgart, Germany, last week.

DISA touts JIE as “the largest restructuring of information technology management” in the history of the Defense Department. JIE operations centers will serve as the single entry point and primary executor for DoD Information Network operations, as well as defensive cyber operations, in designated areas of support. The Stuttgart node will serve the European and African commands.

DISA Director Air Force Lt. Gen. Ronnie D. Hawkins Jr. said JIE marks a “fundamental strategic shift in how the DoD will operate and defend the DoD Information Network for years to come.”
