Be Careful With That FOUO Stamp

Imagine my surprise yesterday when I first read the statement of work for the Defense Information Systems Agency mobile gadget plan for the Defense Department and discovered all but the first page of the 41 page document emblazoned with the “For Official Use Only” header.

I fired a note off to the folks up at a Fort Meade and received a reply early today from DISA spokesman Steven Doub, who explained that the internal draft of the statement of work “was labeled FOUO. Once the document was finalized, the FOUO legend was removed on page one, however, it inadvertently remained on subsequent pages. The document has since been revised to remove the FOUO legend.”

This confirms my suspicions that the FOUO rubric is often applied willy-nilly by folks who like to classify almost everything.
