Letter: Suggestions for OPM
A reader has suggestions for the Office of Personnel Management to streamline the job application process.
Regarding "OPM to job seekers, managers: Talk to us"
As
a current federal employee, I welcome a quicker, streamlined [job]
application process for current federal employees. Most qualified
applicants are discouraged from applying due to the long waiting time
for an interview and selection. Six months to wait on an employment
decision for one vacancy is far too long. Agency directors do not wait
that long for congressional confirmation.
One application Web
site should be used for all government jobs. It is confusing and
prohibitive to have potential candidates set up an account on several
different sites so they can apply for a position with a specific
agency.
Why would an agency require applicants to mail all
that paper instead of faxing or emailing the documents?! No one should
have to mail an application unless they do not have access to a
computer.
Thank you for allowing me to comment.
