Privacy amendment and threatened holds have probably killed the bill, sources say.
Judiciary Committee members Sens. Jon Kyl, (R-Ariz.), and John Cornyn,
(R-Texas) have also threatened to put holds on the bill according to
NextGov's sources, as has Sen. James Inhofe, (R-Okla.), who is not on
the committee.
A standoff in the Senate Judiciary Committee has probably killed the E-Government Act reauthorization bill, Nextgov.com reports.
Much of the hangup is due to an amendment by Senate Judiciary Chairman Patrick Leahy (D-Vt.) to include new privacy protections, according to NextGov. Leahy's amendment would require federal agencies to conduct privacy impact assessments before using outside contractors to manage personal information.
