Air Force buys more wireless networks

Telos announced today that it received a $2.7 million Air Force contract to build a wireless network at three more bases to aid aircraft maintenance.

Xacta, a Telos subsidiary, will equip Barksdale Air Force Base, La.; Whiteman Air Force Base, Mo.; and Nellis Air Force Base, Nev., with its secure wireless local-area network system. The Air Force’s Air Combat Command in Langley, Va., awarded the contract so that warfighters can fix aircraft on the flight line to speed the repair process, according to a Telos statement.

“By extending the network to the flight line, asset readiness will improve in support of the warfighter,” said Tom Badders, Telos’ director of wireless networking.

Warfighters use a rugged, wireless-enabled Itronix notebook computer to order and track parts, and to study and solve aircraft maintenance problems. The contract is an addition to a multimillion-dollar Air Force contract Telos received last year to install wireless networks at bases with 64 systems now in operation.
