Treasury hires new CIO
The Treasury Department has a new chief information officer, Drew Ladner, who starts work March 10, according to a department spokeswoman, who could not provide additional information.
Ladner will face some challenges. Treasury lost many senior information technology officials in the past year and is losing even more staff as the government reorganizes agencies to create the Homeland Security Department.
Transportation fills CIO post
Daniel Matthews has been appointed chief information officer at the Transportation Department and also starts March 10.
He comes to DOT from Savantage Financial Services Inc., where he served as senior vice president since July 2000. Kim Taylor, who has been DOT's acting CIO for more than two years, will return to the position of deputy CIO.
Navy bolsters CIO staff
The Navy's chief information officer, David Wennergren, named two Navy Department deputy CIOs.
Rear Adm. Thomas Zelibor has been selected to be deputy CIO for the Navy. Zelibor is currently director of the Space, Information Warfare, Command and Control Division of Naval Operations. Brig. Gen. John Thomas has been selected as the Navy Department deputy CIO for the Marine Corps. Thomas is currently the Marines' CIO.
Networx to replace FTS 2001
The General Services Administration is starting to work on a replacement for the telecommunications contract vehicle that will replace the FTS 2001 and Metropolitan Area Acquisition programs.
GSA's Federal Technology Service officials approved a draft of the new strategy late last week. The new vehicle, Networx, will be in place well before the older contracts expire.
