*** The Department of Defense is looking for ideas from industry on dynamic spectrum sharing to support commercial and military 5G development. DOD controls large swathes of mid-band spectrum used for high-power radar operations that are ideal for 5G deployment. In an Sept. 18 request for information, DOD is seeking ideas on how spectrum sharing could bring commercial users and radar operations into the same frequency bands, if it makes sense for DOD to own and operate its own 5G networks and whether multiple spectrum sharing solutions should be deployed.

"DOD's partnership with industry is imperative in this extremely technical and competitive field," agency CIO Dana Deasy said in a statement. "What we learn in this effort has potential to benefit the entire nation and keep the U.S. as the global leader of 5G technology for many years to come."
