Impact from the ivory tower. For all the advanced degrees in Washington, academics do not often drive agency policies. Yet Fu made feds and commercial health providers alike think differently about the security risks of Internet-connected medical devices. (Not long after Fu's paper made the rounds, fans of the TV show "Homeland" saw that risk taken to its extreme.) A member of the National Institute of Standards and Technology’s Information Security and Privacy Advisory Board, Wu led the group's work on that issue and also helped Congress understand how smart cards could reduce Medicare fraud.
