VanRoekel's challenge: Advancing the Obama administration's IT agenda

On Aug. 15, Steven VanRoekel became the new federal chief information officer. He faces far more serious fiscal constraints than did his predecessor, Vivek Kundra. According to Office of Management and Budget Director Jack Lew, information technology reform has emerged as the crux of the government's cost-saving efforts. With the administration looking to find $1.5 trillion in spending cuts as a result of the debt reduction deal reached with Congress, the stakes and expectations are high for VanRoekel.
