HHS Seeks Input on Information Network

A Health and Human Service Department panel wants feedback on how to set up a governing system for the nationwide health information network, commonly known as NHIN, so providers can start using its services to exchange patient data.

According to a report Government Health IT, the governance workgroup of the Health IT Policy Committee, which is developing final recommendations on the matter, made the request.

The workgroup seeks suggestions by Nov. 3 on existing methods that could be appropriate for NHIN governance, according to Government Health IT. Click here to comment.

The Social Security Administration said in December 2008 it would be the first agency to use the national network the federal government is promoting to exchange electronic health records.
