NYC buildings dept. to track via cellphone and GPS
The New York Times
Seeking to better manage its resources and increase the supervision of its inspectors, New York City's Department of Buildings will begin tracking their whereabouts using GPS technology in their department-issued cellphones. The new tracking system, which has upset some inspectors, will begin monitoring the first group of 10 inspectors on Monday. By the end of next month, all of the agency's 379 inspectors -- including crane and elevator inspectors -- will be tracked through their cellphones, agency officials announced Friday.
