Contractors jockey for IT, construction, energy projects at DoD

Roof by roof, boiler by boiler, light bulb by light bulb, the Pentagon is launching a $7.4 billion construction blitz that will bring thousands of facility upgrades to military bases nationwide. In a phonebook-sized plan released March 20, the Defense Department detailed thousands of projects it is launching as part of the economic stimulus package signed into law in February. The bulk of the money will be spent on deferred maintenance projects, new construction and eco-friendly building upgrades.
