Social networking sites a hotbed for cybercrime

The distribution of malware on social networking sites first occurred in small amounts towards the end of 2007, but that trend appears to be on the rise. According to a report from MessageLabs Intelligence, a popular tactic in 2008 among cyber criminals involved the creation of fictitious accounts on social networking sites. These fake accounts were then used to post malicious links, which usually led to a phishing site, to legitimate users.
