The word among a number of CIOs is that it is becoming impossible to build data centers in U.S. cities. It isn't just that it costs a lot to power a data center. Local power companies claim the power needed to run the data centers simply isn't there. So, adopting greener practices, and in some cases moving to virtualization, isn't a choice so much as a necessity.
