Adding to 'You're injured. Who Pays?'
Milt Zall's column is the first thing I read whenever a new FCW arrives. Here's another aspect to his May 28 column, "You're injured. Who pays?":
If I hire a lawyer to recover damages, including those incurred by the health insurance company, shouldn't that company be willing to pay the lawyer's fee (percentage) for its share of the recovery?
Indiana has a law that allows lawyers to withhold their fees on such recoveries. My health insurance provider didn't agree with Indiana law and denied me benefits until the full amount was recovered. I thought this was very inappropriate since I have been with this provider for 14 years. You can bet I switched providers at the next open season. I may not be any better off, but I feel better about it.
