Letter to the editor

Trying to crack career field crossover

I read with great interest the letter to the editor dated March 2, 2001, regarding the shortage of information security personnel.

All I can say is that I agree 100 percent with everything the writerwrote. I, too, have been willing to take a cut in pay (from a GS-9 to aGS-5) to break into that field. I'm willing to take an entry-level positionand be trained the way they want me to be trained.

It's unbelievable all the stumbling blocks you go through. I have heardof a new program that is supposed to help civilians cross over into thesecareer fields (like the student intern program, but available to civilianscurrently on the rolls). I have never heard anything else in regards tothis program. Trying to find information on how one can apply is like tryingto crack the code to the best-kept secret ever.

No wonder I'm looking to go to the private sector as well. I, too, wantto be a contractor and brag about how much the government is paying me —when they could of had me cheaper!
