New House GOP task force to weigh Obama cyber proposal by Oct.

House GOP leaders on Friday announced the creation of a Republican task force that will evaluate the White House's recent proposal for far-reaching cybersecurity reforms.

Senate leaders support most of the Obama administration's 52-page draft legislation, but House Republicans have not taken a public stance on many of the issues, such as regulating private sector networks that support critical government and commercial services.

The new group plans to report back to House leaders on its assessment in October, according to aides for Rep. Mac Thornberry, R-Texas, who is leading the task force. He was tapped earlier this year to push cyber legislation through House committees.

The 12-member task force also includes key players on House panels with jurisdiction over cyber security, such as Reps. Jason Chaffetz, R-Utah, Dan Lungren, R-Calif., and Rep. Mike McCaul, R-Texas.
