Former White House cyber official Jeff Greene to join CISA

He is expected to replace outgoing assistant cybersecurity director Eric Goldstein, according to multiple media reports.
Former White House National Security Council cyber staff member Jeff Greene, the current cybersecurity programs director at the Aspen Institute think tank, is joining the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency next month, the agency confirmed.
He is expected to replace Eric Goldstein, the agency’s outgoing assistant director of cybersecurity, according to multiple reports. Goldstein confirmed departure from the agency last week and is joining an unannounced private sector firm in a cyber-focused role.
CNN first reported the news of Greene replacing Goldstein.
“We can confirm that Jeff Greene will be joining CISA in early June and that Eric Goldstein will be leaving CISA in mid-June. At this time, however, we cannot confirm that Jeff will be replacing Eric,” an agency spokesperson told Nextgov/FCW.
Greene did not return a request for comment.
“Jeff Greene has been a visionary leader of Aspen Digital’s cybersecurity programs the last two years. We’re sorry to see him go but proud that he will be serving his country in such a critical time,” said Vivian Schiller, Aspen’s VP and executive director of Aspen’s digital policy group.
Greene headed NSC’s defensive cyber and incident response efforts as well as the White House’s counter-ransomware work. Prior to that, he led NIST’s National Cybersecurity Center of Excellence. He also ran government and policy affairs at Symantec, a cybersecurity firm. He won Federal 100 honors from Nextgov/FCW in 2023 for his work on governmentwide cyber policy.
