Hacked Tweet from TV Station Announces Bolivian President Gravely Wounded

On the eve of elections, hackers breached the Twitter account of Bolivia's state television and used it to issue a bogus tweet saying President Morales had been the victim of an assassination attempt.

Morales then appeared at a news conference and blamed the hoax on political opponents.

Morales, Bolivia's first indigenous president, easily won a third term on Oct. 12.

“The assassination attempt tweet was the first in a series of increasingly nonsensical tweets from the account. One said the United States was at war with Bolivia,” the AP reports.
