Yahoo! in Japan fears 22 million IDs excavated

Outsider who tried cracking the administrative system of Yahoo! Japan’s portal possibly retrieved millions of user IDs – but no passwords.

“We don’t know if the file of 22 million user IDs was leaked or not, but we can’t deny the possibility given the volume of traffic between our server and external” terminals, the company said in a statement.

The compromised information did not include data that would allow unauthorized individuals to reset passwords.

Japan has admitted cyber defenses remain underdeveloped. The national police agency announced in May it would launch a team to analyze and combat cyberattacks.
