NBC.com injected with a virus targeting visitors' bank accounts

Media // Web Services

For five hours, NBC.com distributed common malware called Citadel that invaded visitors computers and targeted their banking information. The worm was only picked up by 3 out of 46 antivirus scanners — Fortinet, Panda and Rising. "We noticed one of our clients visited NBC.com and got infected with malware," Joost Bijl of the company, Fox-IT, which provides security for government agencies and financial institutions, told BuzzFeed. Similar viruses have compromised the Wall Street Journal's and the New York Times' websites in the past. https://threatpost.com/en_us/blogs/nbc-website-hacked-leading-visitors-citadel-banking-malware-022113
