Energy Department hack looks like Chinese espionage
Government (U.S.) // Washington, DC, United States
Sophisticated hackers attacked networks at the Energy Department’s DC headquarters. Indications the hackers compromised personal information on employees and had plans to gain future access to classified and other sensitive information. A total of 14 computer servers and 20 workstations at the headquarters were penetrated during the attack. All HQ employees were told in an email on 1/3/13 of what the notice said was “a recent cyber incident.” Energy is in the process of notifying individual employees and contractors affected by the breach. Apparently no classified data was compromised.
