GOP Wants Sebelius Fired Over Glitch-filled Launch of HealthCare.gov

The White House has said it has no plans to get rid of the HHS secretary.

After failing to put a dent in the Affordable Care Act through the shutdown and debt ceiling deal, the Republican Party shifted its focus to Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius.

The Republican National Committee is tweeting #FireSebelius and their website homepage features a petition demanding that President Obama sack the head of the department in charge of carrying out his signature health reform initiative.

The petition calls the glitch-ridden rollout of Healthcare.gov a "systemic failure" and says Sebelius should be held accountable for ignoring "red flags and repeated warnings that Obamacare wasn't ready for primetime."

The White House said Tuesday it has no plans to get rid of Sebelius.

Republican leaders in the House Energy and Commerce Committee are also pressing the secretary to appear at a hearing next week, insisting that HHS release enrollment data and that Sebelius testify whether she knew the site was not ready to launch.

"This is wholly unacceptable," Chairman Fred Upton, R-Mich, said in a press release. "Secretary Sebelius had time for Jon Stewart, and we expect her to have time for Congress."

There's no question the federal website has kept some Americans from enrolling for coverage. But the latest twist on the Republican Party's anti-Obamacare efforts appears less like a blow to the law itself and more like "Off with her head."
