Introducing the New Emerging Tech Blog

Technology affects everyone, everywhere, all the time, and its repercussions for humanity and the greater world are already too numerous to list.

Sounds deep, huh?

In all seriousness, my first goal with this blog will be to write about emerging technologies across government -- in the worlds of defense, intelligence and regular, old civilian sectors -- as well as the people who govern and operate them.

My second goal? That it’s never boring, lame or yawn inducing.

Regular blog topics will include interesting tidbits on IT, research and development efforts, the rumor mill and emerging ideas that may one day be the next big deal. Large-scale and broad tech issues will also be fair game. If it’s cool, cutting edge or interesting, I’ll write about it. And whenever I can, I’ll infuse tech-related commentary with a Red Bull-like shot -- or three -- of personality.

So for those who don’t know me, I’m a technology journalist at Government Executive Media Group, covering topics like cloud computing, cybersecurity, big data/open data and mobile, just to mention a few. I also regularly explore technology's role on national security, policy and privacy -- and how technology shapes our world.

I cover the good, the bad and the ugly, and I take pride in seeking out stories that focus on innovative technological efforts. Since moving to Washington, D.C., two years ago, I’ve broken several high-profile tech stories, including the CIA’s massive cloud computing deal with Amazon Web Services. I've also covered the National Security Agency's efforts to handle the massive amount of data it collects and written comprehensively about the tension, conflict and failings within the Department of Veterans Affairs tech shop.

Finally, I've also appeared on MSNBC’s "The Cycle," NPR’s "Marketplace" and the TV show "Government Matters" several times to talk about important technology news, and I frequently speak at or moderate tech panels at conferences across the Beltway. I’m also an avid Twitter user.
