It could be considered a consolation prize for iPhone users.

Apple has been in trouble as of late. The tech giant has been the subject of backlash after it was discovered that the company intentionally slowed down older iPhones in order to mitigate battery concerns and ultimately get customers to buy a new model.

Apple released an apology letter on Dec. 28 to address customer concerns.

"It should go without saying that we think sudden, unexpected shutdowns are unacceptable. We don’t want any of our users to lose a call, miss taking a picture or have any other part of their iPhone experience interrupted if we can avoid it," Apple said in the letter.

The company also announced their plan to offer out-of-warranty iPhone battery replacements for $29, which is a $50 reduction from the usual price of $79. This battery deal applies to anyone with an iPhone 6 or older and will run through all of 2018.

Apple also plans to release a software update that will offer users greater insight into the health of their iPhone battery, which could help users decide if any changes need to be made to their device.
