CIO.gov Goes Down

The Office of Management and Budget's CIO.gov website went offline sometime before 3 p.m. on Wednesday and was still out Thursday afternoon.

A spokeswoman for the General Services Administration, which oversees the site, said CIO.gov was "experiencing technical problems and GSA efforts to resolve the issue are currently underway."

She said GSA "has no reason to believe this is a denial of service attack."

Moira Mack, a spokeswoman for the federal CIO's office said on Thursday that the site was "down for hardware maintenance."

"We are transitioning to a more robust solution that will avoid such disruptions," she said.

GSA added a note to CIO.gov around 8 p.m. Wednesday stating it was temporarily unavailable. Prior to then the site had only loaded error messages.

CIO.gov is a gathering spot for information about best practices in government technology, including website maintenance.
