One More Makes Three

The General Services Administration announced today that Verizon Business Services will offer secure Internet connections to agencies via the Networx Universal contract. Verizon joins AT&T and Qwest Government Services in offering managed trusted Internet protocol service on Networx Universal.

"GSA developed this Internet security program under the Networx contract to allow agencies to connect to the Internet in full compliance with the Office of Management and Budget's trusted Internet connections initiative," said Acting Administrator Paul Prouty.

The offerings are designed to help agencies comply with TIC by requiring companies to provide agencies with turn-key, secure Internet connections including intrusion detection and redundant connections. Today's announcement means all three Networx Universal vendors are now offering MTIPS. GSA officials said in March that agencies have shown more interest in purchasing secure Internet connections than originally anticipated.

Networx is the largest telecommunications program in the history of the federal government. It is divided into Networx Universal, with a ceiling of $48.1 billion, and Networx Enterprise, with a $20 billion cap. Both contracts are indefinite delivery-indefinite quantity with four-year base periods and two three-year options.
