There are more ways to destroy your smartphone than just dropping it.

Buying a new charger for your smartphone or laptop? Be careful from where you buy it. Recently, a Google engineer found out the hard way when an incorrectly wired type-C USB cable completely fried his device.

Make sure to buy from reputable brands and double-check reviews. Faulty USB cables may not only permanently damage your devices, but they can also start battery fires.

For iPhone users, there's one more additional thing to worry about: Error 53.

If the home button with the fingerprint scanner on your iPhone 6 or 6s breaks, do not get it repaired at a third-party shop. Users who did and then downloaded the latest iOS update found their precious devices rendered useless.
