Just like with smartphones, laptops and their users depend on a good battery life. So, when your laptop can't hold a charge and you're miles away from an outlet with a report due in an hour, something needs to change.

To make the charge last a bit longer, there are a few simple things users can do.

The screen is the biggest battery hog, so make sure the brightness level is turned down as much as possible. Also, dim the light on the back-lit keyboard. Disable Bluetooth when you can and close any unused programs.

Laptop batteries can only last up to a certain number of charge cycles, however, so disabling Bluetooth will only help so much after awhile.

So, to really ensure your laptop lasts, check out the health of your battery first.
