Video: Here's How Google's New Safety App Works

Google

After a natural disaster or other emergency situation occurs, people often want to know if their friends in that geographic area are safe. Google has developed a new app, Trusted Contacts, that lets users easily share their location with loved ones.

After installing the app, users add contacts of the people they would want to share their location with, whether if it's following an emergency or while they're traveling.

Users can manually send location status, but others can also request your location status. If the user doesn't respond in five minutes, the app will automatically respond. There's also a mode that lets users share their location constantly for a 24-hour period.

The app is currently available on Android but an iPhone version is coming soon.
