Following in the footsteps of many other federal agencies, including the Homeland Security Department, Health and Human Services, and the Army, the General Services Administration launched a blog on Friday that will focus on trends in information technology procurement.

Ed O'Hare, assistant commissioner of GSA's office of integrated technology services, launched his Great Government through Technology blog "as a forum for discussion of acquisition trends and innovations in the federal information technology marketplace," according to the GSA announcement. The blog, which O'Hare plans to update every week or so, will include a comment feature to allow readers to provide feedback.

"Though I won't be able to respond to everyone, I will do my best to keep the communication two-way" with federal agencies, industry partners and the public, O'Hare said in his first post. He manages and directs the Networx contract, governmentwide acquisition and Schedule 70 IT contracts, and the new commercial satellite communications acquisition partnership between GSA and the Defense Information Systems Agency. O'Hare wrote:

The digital revolution is dramatically changing the way we live, the way we work, and the way that the American government is serving its constituents; I think for the better. Almost every day, I hear about exciting new technologies or innovations with the potential to produce changes in the way government serves and interacts with citizens. The rapid pace of these technological changes - and the ability to harness them effectively - is one of the biggest challenges facing government today.
