The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services launched on Monday a new website detailing its electronic health records incentives program, an initiative designed to provide financial rewards to health care providers who demonstrate meaningful use of certified electronic health records systems.

To participate in the program, providers must deploy certified EHR technology, have a national provider identifier and be enrolled in CMS' Provider Enrollment, Chain and Ownership System. Eligible providers may receive up to $44,000 in incentives for Medicare and $63,750 for Medicaid but will not receive payment for both.

The website details eligibility requirements, certification details and meaningful use information. Registration for the program will be available in early 2011.

The Office of the National Coordinator this week will publish a final rule for a temporary EHR certification program, and certified products should be available this fall.
