There’s been a lot of Sturm und Drang among far right Republicans over President Obama’s reelection Tuesday.
One Louisianan is apparently taking it harder than the rest, though. The day after the election “Michael E” of Slidell took to We the People, the White House’s online petition site, to ask the federal government to “Peacefully grant the State of Louisiana to withdraw from the United States of America and create its own NEW government.”
The petition is basically an extended quote from the Declaration of Independence, suggesting the time has come for the Pelican State to “dissolve the political bands which have connected” it with the rest of the nation.
The petition had garnered 299 signatures by noon Friday.
President Obama lost Louisiana’s eight electoral votes to Republican challenger Mitt Romney, 41 percent to 58 percent.
