The Energy Department's investment in wind-energy technology is certainly eye catching. At the agency's National Wind Technology Center, turbines soar nearly 300 feet into the air.
While that height is great for turning wind into power, it's a challenge for wind-turbine technicians. Climbing ladders hundreds of feet tall is both physically and mentally daunting. Technicians must take many safety precautions for every single task.
"This is not a job where you want to have a lapse in safety," one technician said.
