Move over, Silicon Valley: These 2,300 researchers are responsible for your favorite gadgets of tomorrow.
The medieval city of Leven, Belgium, is home to Imec, a research center responsible for figuring out what will and won't work in next-generation chips for PCs and smartphones. In other words, these 2,300 researchers are responsible for your favorite gadgets of tomorrow.
But Imec is working on other things besides smartphone chips in its new $1.1 billion clean room. Researchers are developing technologies like autofocusing contact lenses and a chip that can scan more than 4,000 blood cells per second.
