What: Website support and data visualization RFP.

Why: The Education Department is looking for someone to refresh its website.

The department recently issued a request for proposals to support, design, develop and maintain public-facing websites for the Office of Educational Technology within the Office of the Secretary. Data visualization is a critical component, though the RFP describes the visualizations themselves as basic; the job also entails support for the department’s Learning Registry, which aggregates data about online education resources.

In 2011, the Education Department launched the 2.0 version of ED Data Express website, an interactive site featuring data about elementary and secondary schools in the U.S. The Learning Registry aims to be a platform for innovation by aggregators and collaborators, and users can access the code on GitHub, according to the website.

The deadline for the RFP was extended to Aug. 4. Proposals are being accepted solely though the RFP-EZ website.
