GSA formally announces Davie as acting FAS commissioner
Davie brings 20 years of GSA experience to the post as Commissioner Steve Kempf begins medical leave.
The General Services Administration formally announced July 30 that Mary Davie, assistant Federal Acquisition Service commissioner for Integrated Technology Services, will temporarily take over as acting FAS commissioner.
Steve Kempf, FAS commissioner, announced in an email to employees July 27 that he was taking 60 days of medical leave, according to reports. His leave began July 30. GSA officials have made no formal statement on Kempf’s decision or the reason for it.
In the role, Davie will manage GSA's delivery of more than $55 billion in products, while also leading the strategic direction of the acquisition arm of GSA, the procurement agency and government landlord. FAS officials have pushed for more efficiency and better bargains for customer agencies, while creating more ways to save money on a governmentwide basis.
Davie’s career spans more than 20 years of service at GSA. She played a key role in bringing innovative solutions to the agency’s IT and acquisition efforts as the assistant commissioner of ITS. She helped in leading the federal Strategic Sourcing Working Group and the Office of Management and Budget’s Strategic Sourcing Community of Practice to develop a vision and framework for strategic sourcing in government. She has also served as the assistant commissioner for Assisted Acquisition Services.
