Defense CIO: DISA Isn't the Sole Cloud Source

Teri Takai, the Defense Department's chief information officer, said she will not force the four services or Defense organizations to use cloud computing provided by the Defense Information Systems Agency.

Though she has promoted DISA as the first choice for cloud computing, Takai, speaking in Colorado Springs, Colo., at a Cyberspace Symposium sponsored by the Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association Rocky Mountain chapter, emphasized that it was not the only option.

To users who perceive that DISA charges high rates and responds slowly, Takai said the Air Force offers a good alternative. This remark went over well with an audience drawn primarily from Air Force outfits located in Colorado Springs, including the Space Command.
