New social media handbook coaches Marines

The Social Corps handbook gives instructions to Marines on how to use social media.

The U.S. Marine Corps has a new set of principles to follow: The Social Corps handbook paves the way for Marines to use social media in the proper military fashion, in particular highlighting the use of "innovative communications," reports AOLgov.

“The best advice is to approach online communication in the same way we communicate in person — by using sound judgment and common sense, adhering to the Marine Corps’ core values of honor, courage and commitment, following established policy, and abiding by the Uniform Code of Military Justice (UCMJ),” the 48-page document, released this month, instructs.

“…if you wouldn’t say it in front of a formation, don’t say it online,” it reads, adding that those who deviate from the proper social media etiquette may be subject to disciplinary review and other actions.
