Federal Register puts presidential documents online daily
The Office of the Federal Register has launched a new online publication that will make presidential documents available each day through the Government Printing Office's new Federal Digital System.
The Office of the Federal Register (OFR) will now post presidential documents on a daily rather than weekly basis.
The new Daily Compilation of Presidential Documents is available through the Government Printing Office’s Federal Digital System (FDsys) at www.presidentialdocuments.gov. It replaced the printed Weekly Compilation of Presidential Documents on Jan. 20.
The compilation will contain presidential orders, press statements, and messages to lawmakers, agencies and international leaders. The material is edited for accuracy and annotated with additional information “to provide an authoritative record of the presidency,” OFR said in a recent news release.
The office is part of the National Archives and Records Administration.
GPO said the daily compilation will reach a broader audience through FDsys than a print publication could reach. It is the first one specifically designed for FDsys.
FDsys is a new system that allows GPO to manage government documents in digital form. It will eventually contain information submitted by Congress and agencies, gathered from agency Web sites, and scanned from printed documents.
FDsys is in its public beta phase. The data now available through the GPO Access system will be migrated to FDsys by the middle of this year, according to GPO’s Web site. The first of five major release phases for FDsys is planned for February.
