Program: 5307 (Large Urban Cities) grant.


  • Sponsors: Transportation Department, Federal Transit Administration.

  • Description: Cities use 5307 grants to replace vehicles, but the program may also be used to fund communications, hardware and software purchases.


Program: Job Access and Reverse Commute.


  • Sponsors: Transportation Department, Federal Transit Administration.

  • Description: This program funds transportation projects that link urban areas with suburban employment centers; eligible projects include customer trip IT and vehicle position monitoring systems.


Program: New Freedom.


  • Sponsors: Transportation Department, Federal Transit Administration.

  • Description: This program, which seeks to improve transportation access to people with disabilities, includes funding for intelligent transportation systems.


Program: Mobility Services for All Americans.


  • Sponsors: Transportation Department, Research and Innovative Technology Administration.

  • Description: This program aims to improve transportation services to employment, health care and other human services. In January 2007, DOT selected eight sites to demonstrate intelligent transportation systems.
