The Defense Information Systems Agency asked vendors earlier this month to put on their thinking caps and provide input for a next-generation worldwide network that can transmit data at terabit speeds – optical fiber so fast you could use it to copy two full length movie DVDs in about a second.
A number of companies, including Titan Photonics, Xtera and Cienna have all introduced gizmos to handle terabit networking, so it looks like DISA’s future network plans dovertail with available technology.
Just think what a terabit network will do for all the PowerPoint warriors.
