The Defense Department has tapped Barclay Butler, former vice president for healthcare solutions in the government division of Harris Corp. to serve as director of the Defense Department/Veterans Affairs Department Interagency Program Office, which will manage the development of an integrated electronic health record for both departments.
Butler has extensive military health information technology experience through an Army career capped by service as the chief information officer for the Army Medical Department in 2001 and 2002.
I'm told Butler was selected over some senior folks at Military Health System HQ who really lusted after the job, and establishment of a defensive perimeter should be his first task.
Butler started work Feb. 27, according to an internal Pentagon memo dated the same day.
