The NGEN Feeding Frenzy Begins

The Navy will hold an Industry Day on March 31 to discuss how it plans to transition from the Navy Marine Corps Intranet run by EDS to its <a href=http://whatsbrewin.nextgov.com/2009/03/gauss_to_run_navy_ngen_acquisi.php>Next Generation Enterprise Network</a>, a <a href=http://www.govexec.com/story_page.cfm?articleid=39351&ref=rellink>massive deal</a> potentially worth as much as $10 billion.
The Navy will hold an Industry Day on March 31 to discuss how it plans to transition from the Navy Marine Corps Intranet run by EDS to its Next Generation Enterprise Network, a massive deal potentially worth as much as $10 billion.
The Navy will hold the confab at the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center in Washington, will limit attendance to 550 folks, and urges advance online registration. Walk-ins will not be allowed if the 550 limit is reached.
The Navy held a Foundation Concepts Industry Day for NGEN in September 2008 and the one next week is supposed to be the real deal, with vendors eagerly anticipating the release of acquisition details and a timeline. If you want to do some homework, check out the online NGEN library.
Rear Adm. John Goodwin, assistant chief of naval operations for NGEN, and his staff deserve kudos for holding their event at a Metro-friendly location, near the Federal Triangle station on Washington's Metro blue and orange lines, rather than at some hotel in traffic-snarled Tysons Corner, Va.
