That's not the kind you wear. It's the kind you put on your computer to protect data at rest from bad guys.
The Navy chief information officer shop, headed by Rob Carey, tapped MTM Technologies on Feb. 3 to provide it with its "Mobile Armor" software for all computer gadgets and gizmos not connected to the Navy and Marine Corps Intranet. NMCI computers use software developed by GuardianEdge Technologies Inc. to protect data at rest.
Mobile Armor requires two factors to boot up a computer - a password and a CAC card - and uses encryption to protect stored data.
It looks like Mobile Armor has become almost the de facto standard to protect data at rest within the Defense Department. Last year the Army's Computer Hardware, Enterprise Software and Solutions awarded MTM a contract for use of Mobile Armor throughout that service.
