The Defense Information Systems Agency plans to dig into its pocketbook to ensure funding for the Defense Knowledge Online portal for fiscal 2010.
A DISA spokesman told me that the agency plans to pony up funds to support 500,000 DKO users from 2010 through 2015. Since there are roughly 3 million Defense personnel (that's military, civilian, active, Guard and Reserve) that leaves DKO with a shortfall in funding for about a half million users The Army, which operates Army Knowledge Online, has funds for about 2 million users.
The Air Fore and Navy operate their own knowledge portals and have been reluctant to sign on to DKO. I hear all kinds of blandishments are being offered to these two services, including mini-portals that play "Into the Wild Blue Yonder" and "Anchors Aweigh."
