SAIC held previous contract for 17 years.

The Government Accountability Office has denied a protest  filed by Science Applications International Corp. against an award of a $4.6 billion Defense Information Systems Agency contract to Lockheed Martin Corp. to operate the Defense Department’s Global Information Grid.

SAIC had held the previous contract -- its largest federal contract -- for 17 years.

Under the contract awarded in June, Lockheed Martin will provide the worldwide support services necessary to carry out the day-to-day operations of Global Information Grid networks and related services under the GIG Services Management-Operations contract.

This includes managing unclassified, Secret and coalition networks, the top-level Red Switch network for National Command Authority and satellite service networks.
